A key concern is the presence of usage-related hazardous substances and their potential impact on human health and the environment. Prior to the commencement of demolition, refurbishment, or maintenance works, clients and project owners are legally required—under the building regulations of the respective federal states and the forthcoming revision of the Hazardous Substances Ordinance to determine whether hazardous materials are present or expected based on the building’s history and usage.
Similarly, employers are obligated, as part of a risk assessment, to evaluate whether employees may be exposed to hazardous materials during their work - particularly asbestos.
The investigation, assessment, and remediation of buildings contaminated with hazardous substances have been a core area of expertise for GBU for many years. Through extensive experience and in-depth expertise in building contaminants, GBU has been certified since 2021 as a “Certified Remediation Planner/Expert for Building Contaminants (GVSS)”.
Our consulting services cover the entire process—from initial site inspection and contaminant surveys to professional tendering, specialist site supervision, and final project documentation.
